About the Department
The Department of Civil Engineering at Sri Lanka Technology Campus (SLTC) offers two four-year, full-time honours degree programs: the Bachelor of Science Honours in Engineering in Civil Engineering and the Bachelor of Science Honours in Quantity Surveying. Both programs are awarded by SLTC and are recognized by the Ministry of Higher Education and Vocational Education, Sri Lanka.
The Civil Engineering program is designed in accordance with the guidelines of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka (IESL) and follows Outcome-Based Education (OBE) principles to ensure international standards and graduate competency. The curriculum encompasses key disciplines such as Structural, Geotechnical, Hydraulics, Environmental, and Transportation Engineering, providing students with a strong theoretical foundation and practical exposure.
The Quantity Surveying program is structured to produce graduates with expertise in construction cost management, contract administration, and project procurement. It integrates engineering knowledge with commercial and legal aspects of the construction industry, ensuring graduates are well-equipped to manage the financial and contractual dimensions of projects.
Both programs are carefully designed to produce industry-ready graduates through a combination of academic coursework, practical training, and industry engagement. The department is equipped with modern laboratory facilities and provides opportunities for hands-on learning, research, and professional development.
The Civil Engineering program comprises a total of 130 academic credits, including 130 credits of taught courses (GPA), and a 24-week industrial training placement of 6 credits (NGPA) at a recognized organization, supervised by academic staff. In addition, a two-week Surveying Camp of 2 credits (NGPA) is included to provide essential field-based experience.
The Quantity Surveying program requires a total of 150 credits, consisting of 138 credits of taught courses (GPA), 6 credits of industrial training (GPA), and 6 credits of non-GPA components. This structure ensures a balanced development of technical knowledge, professional skills, and practical industry exposure.
