Faculty of Engineering
Engineering solutions for a better tomorrow.
Built around academic excellence, applied research and industry relevance.
Established in 2015 at the former Satellite Earth Station premises in Padukka, SLTC—initiated in 2014 under the leadership of Ranjith G. Rubasinghe as a subsidiary of Sri Lanka Telecom—stands as Sri Lanka’s first corporate-funded, fully residential engineering campus, created to bridge the gap between academic theory and industry requirements.Building on this foundation, the Faculty of Engineering rapidly expanded its academic footprint, gaining official recognition as a degree-awarding institution through Extraordinary Gazette No. 1995/39 in 2016, launching its initial BSc (Hons) Engineering programmes in Electronics and Power Systems, Electronics and Telecommunication, and Electronics and Engineering Management, and further broadening its scope by 2017 with the introduction of Civil Engineering and Information and Communication Engineering.
During this period, the faculty also progressed toward a research-university model, strengthening its global outlook through international pathway partnerships with leading institutions such as Deakin University, RMIT University, Lancaster University, and University of Auckland, enabling students to complete part of their degrees overseas.
A significant milestone in the institution’s journey was the inaugural convocation held in December 2021, where the first cohort of 106 engineering graduates was conferred their degrees at the prestigious Nelum Pokuna Theatre, marking the successful culmination of its founding academic vision.
